Chuireamar fáilte roimh chainteoir staire, John, ó Chumann Stairiúil an Bhlárna inniu chun labhairt fén stair taobh thiar de chaisleán an Bhlárnan. Mar chuid de thionscadail eTwinning i mbliana dár dteideal 'Castles and History' beimid ag roinnt ár n-eolas le pairtnéirí eTwinning sa Ghréig, sa Fhrainc agus sa Pholainn. Léigh cuntas Emma agus Seán thíos fén chaisleán.

We welcomed an historian, John,  from the Blarney Historical Sociey today to  speak about the history and legends surrounding Blarney castle. As part of an eTwinning project this year 'Castles and History' we will be sharing our knowledge with schools in France, Greece and Poland and learning about castles in their country. Have a read of Emma's and Seán's post further below about what we have learned so far.

Thug Robert the Bruce cloch speisialta go Cormac Mac Carthaigh, Rí Cúige Munham. Thug Cormac 4,000 chuig Robert the Bruce i gcath Bannockburn. Fuair sé bronntanas - leath den Stone of Scone. Deirtear go bhfuil sé sin i gCloch an Bhlárnan agus pógann daoine anois é.

Cormac McCarthy, King of Munster, gave 4,000 soldiers to Robert the Bruce during the Battle of Bannockburn. In return, it is said, Robert the Bruce gave Cormac half of the Stone of Scone, used to crown Scottish kings. This is now known as the Blarney Stone and it is high on the battlements of the castle, where people kiss it.

Seo í Banrion Eibhlis .Theasaigh uaithi go mbeadh Cormac dilis di  sheol si fear an  Earl of Leicester chuige. Duirt Cormac an-chuid leis an Iarla seachas an meid a bhí ón mBanríon. Duirt Eibhlis go raibh Cormac lán de 'Blarney'. Is as san a thagann an frása sin!

Queen Elizabeth wanted Cormac MCCarthy to hand over the castle to the Earl of Leicester. When the Earl arrived to talk to Cormac, Cormac was always distracting and delaying him with talk of banquets and other things. The Queen said in irritation that the Earl's reports were full of 'Blarney'.

Tháinig fear darb ainm Oliver Cromwell ag ionsaí caisleán an Bhlárnan. Chuir sé gunnaí canóin ar taobh an tsléibhe agus chuaigh na sliogáin isteach sa chaisleán ag déanamh damáiste dó. Ach bhí pluais ann. Pluais an bhroic ab ainm don phluais. Chuaigh saighdiúirí an Chaisleán tríd an bpluais agus deirtear gur chuadar go dtí Ciarraí, cathair Chorcaí nó loch sa Bhlarnan. Chaitheadar pláta luachmhar ór isteach sa loch.

Oliver Cromwell arrived in Ireland and attacked the castle. He had cannon guns firing shells on the castle. The Irish soldiers fled the castle through 'Badgers Cave'. It is said the caves take you to Kerry. Cork city and Blarney lake. They escaped with a golden plate and threw it into the lake so that Cromwell would not capture it.

Mar thoradh ar an obair a deineadh anuraidh ar dhá thionscadail eTwinning - Christmas Around Europe agus 3,2,1, Go! tugadh Quality Label don scoil. Ní hamháin san ach fuair an tionscadail 'Christmas Around Europe' gradam Eorpach i bhfoirm European Quality Label. Tá Brian Crowley MEP ag teacht chuig na scoile chun an gradam seo a bhronnadh orainn agus chun Brat Gorm a árdú dúinn de dheasca na hoibre a deintear sa scoil ag foghlaim faoi bheith inár mball den Aontas Eorpach.

Two of our eTwinning projects have been awarded Quality Labels from Leargas, our national eTwinning authority. Not only that but one of the projects 'Christmas Around Europe' received a European Quality Label as a result of the standard of ICT development and work involved. Brian Crowley MEP will visit the school today to present this award and to raise our Blue European flag which Gaelscoil Mhuscraí received  in acknowledgement of our focus on the EU and creating better EU citizens.

Dhéan rang a 3 agus a 4 pictiúir le-haghadh na soilse. Dúirt sé  'múch é' orthu. Tá sé seo chun fuinneamh a shábháil le-haghadh an scoil. Bhíomar ag cur rudaí deasa ar an bpictúir. Níor chuaigh gach ceann in aice lena soilse.

Third and fourth designed pictures for our lights. On the picture it said 'turn it off'. We are doing this to save more electricity. Not every picture went on the wall. There were nice designs on these pictures. Now we are finished with them. Thank you.

Tá an coiste glas ag sábháil fuinneamh i mbliana!!!
Gách lón tá beirt ag dul go dtí gach seomra ranga sa scoil ag múchadh na soilse.
Tá an coiste ag déanamh postaeirí agus leathanaigh A4 le 'Múch É' scríte orthu chun brat glas eile a fháil i mbliana.

This year the Green School Committee is saving energy!!

Every lunchtime two committee members go around to every classroom turning off any lights that are still on. The committee are designing posters and sheets with 'Múch É' written on them so that lights are switched off. We hope to get our third Green flag this year!

Tá rang a ceathair ag foghlaim faoi halla stairúil i Waterloo mar chuid de Discover Cork - Schools Heritage Project. Seo cad ata ar eolas acu go fóill:

Fourth class are learning about an historical hall in Waterloo as part of Discover Cork - Schools Heritage Project. Here are some of the things we have learned so far:

Nuair a bhí siad ag damhsa cuireadh 3 amhrán mall ar siúl agus ansin bhí 3 amhrán tapadh curtha ar siúl. Nuair a bhí ceiliúradh sa Bhlárna bhí damhsa mór le  haghaidh gach duine sa halla. Bhí sé a 3 a chlog nó a 2 a chlog ar maidin nuair a chríochnaíodar!!

When people were dancing three slow songs were played and then three fast songs. When there was a big celebration in Blarney everyone went to emer hall. They didn't finfish dancing until two or three in the morning!

Aoife Ní Shiúilleabán

Bhí an-chuid rudaí ag tarlú sa halla.  Bhí sé mar halla damhsa.  Bhí sé in úsáid mar scoil agus fiú mar phictiúrlann.Bhí sé tógtha i 1948.

A lot of things happened in the hall. It was a dance hall and a cinema. It was built in 1948.

RONÁN MAC DONNACHA

Istigh sa halla bhí ceadúnas speisíalta ag teastáil chun a bheith ag  ól alcól.
A special license was needed to drink alcohol.
